After the support period has expired for a product, that product will not be able to check for updates online.

-Alarm 3.1.7-3.1.8 – Support ended June 1, 2009.

Unsupported versions should not be installed under any circumstances as they have bugs and other issues which have been fixed in later versions. Pre-release versions have no guarantee of any support.
